Review of "A Demon's Dream"
|
By: Wayne Klinger
wasn't even surprised when this Canadian got signed after being introduced to him by my good friend Ken Madei, the fusion expert and purveyor of fine guitar goods. I took it a step further last year and was able to get ahold of Dave for an interview as well as a feature on my website which ended up being very interesting despite I didn't care to much for his Synesthesia acoustic project. Dave is one of the new generation 7-stringers that has come up with his own sound that's really unique and heavy (closest person I even can tell you is Tom Kopyto from Illinois) and this 12-track CD is by far Dave's best work to date. The continuing style of diverse songwriting keeps the listener guessing always..not just once in awhile, Dave does this fluidly and he's just skillfully demented and if you thought "Zone" was twisted, bizarre and at times, punishingly heavy, you're going to be flossing your ears with guitar wire after a listen to this one. "Got Da Blues" and the song before or after (don't quite remember) only give you a short break to catch your breath and then we get down and dirty again with the heavy stuff with brazen and uncanny ideas. Dave even takes time out to keep up his sense of humor with songs like "Attack Of The Celery Crunchers" and the cover of "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat". This CD has it all and best of all, it's truly original..just like listening to somethng Vai created; you just know it's him and him only. This CD will also make the Top 10 when I gather all my resources of reviews for 2002 and finish the Best Of 2002 Poll..I can bet you on that!
