As time goes on I become more and more interested in Egyptology. Egypt is one of the only places I have yet to visit that I still find mystical. In Egyptian mythology, Set was the evil god of darkness who murdered his brother Osiris after attempting unsuccessfully to usurp his throne. In any case this 12 string piece brought this vision to mind upon completion.

On the front cover art that is the Pyramid of the Sun in the background. It is located at Teotihuacan, located just northeast of Mexico City. It is definately a moving experience to visit the location and for me an extreme physical challenge to climb to the top. This piece reminded me of some of the local musicians that serenaded us.

Literally meaning, "With passion, with emotion in a minor key." This is a very moving piece to me and is another of my interpretations of the standard 1/4/1/5/4/1 chord progression that from time to time seems to crop up in my compositions in some bastardized form.

"An elaborate passage used for embellishment in A Harmonic Minor." Of course any song that has the Octave chimes can`t help but bring back recollections of "Roundabout" by Yes. Of course that is where the comparisons end. This is a little piece to jam on and I just never knew what was coming next along the way.

I guess this is about as close as I can get to "Eastern" music. Based on the Lydian major scale, this piece brings to my mind an "Indian" (as in the country) feel. This scale is something that I have used over the years and it always creates a unique sound that can`t be matched. The 12 string drone of the low strings just gives it a somewhat sitarish sound (as much as can be expected).

A dirge is a slow, mournful musical composition. I am sure there are things about yesterday that we all wish for in one way or another. Although it is not something one should dwell on, it still is something that does not seem to evaporate over time. In any case this track really was a very emotional experience to record.

When I was in college I was fortunate enough to see the Julliard String Quartet. I immediately went home after the concert and began playing "my versions" of some of the music I had heard. That music has been playing in my head ever since. Maybe now I can get some sleep!

One of the few tracks in my career that is based around the major scale. Actuallywritten with lyrics a long time ago. I never found a place for it on my previous CDs but it holds up well in this format. A cool change of feel.

The chord intro is typical Chastain. One of the more difficult tracks to get in one take due to the constant switch between rhythm and lead guitars. A few "Evil For Evil" influences from the "Voice Of The Cult" CD. The E minor/A minor section is a personal favorite.

Dedicated to a brother I never knew who died before I was born. I like the haunting recurring melody. The lead lines seem to cry at times. An ode to what if and what could have been.

I am sure we all have our theories about whether Atlantis ever existed. Considerable controversy surrounds the speculations that the Greek legend of Atlantis may be linked to the cataclysmic destruction of Thera. In any event hopefully we will find out the correct answers to this and many other mysteries of the world.
