Austrian fusion guitarist Gerald Gradwohl teamed up with the late, talented saxman Bob Berg and the Tribal Tech rhythm section, Kirk Covington and Gary Willis, for his 2003 instrumental CD entitled ABQ. Gradwohl admits that playing with Berg, "Made me play my best solos ever to this point." The CD covers a lot of fusion territory, from straight-ahead, to funked up Tech, to slow jazz, to aggressive funk, to a revitalized interpretation of the classic "Giant Steps". Gradwohl's playing, as on his Powergrade album, is full of attitude and you can hear that he's really getting a thrill and taking full advantage of being able to record with his favorite musicians.
